What is DSL?
Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL, is the newest, fastest, and
most convenient Internet access available for home users and small businesses.
DSL runs over your standard voice phone line, and you can use it and talk
on the phone at the same time. With DSL, there's no need for a second phone
line.
How fast is DSL?
We offer DSL in 9 different service tiers:
- DSL Lite - 512k download / 256k upload
- DSL Standard - 1.5M download / 384k upload
- DSL Ultra - 3.0M download / 384k upload
- DSL Extreme - 6.0M download / 384k upload
- The Twelve - 12.0M download / 768k upload
- DSL Pro - 3.0M download / 768k upload
- DSL Ultimate - 6.0M download / 768k upload
- The Twelve Pro - 12.0M download / 1.0M upload
- SDSL - 512k download / 512k upload
Combined with lower latency and an all-digital path, DSL provides
throughput up to 50 times faster than a 28.8kbps modem.
In addition, DSL is always connected, so you never have to wait for your computer to dial up, saving you even more time.
Where is DSL Available?
Please see our DSL Overview Page for a list of locations
with DSL service.
Note that not all locations in every city will be eligible to receive
DSL service. Distance and line quality limitations can make DSL inoperative
for some locations. Windstream will perform a line quality check after your order
is placed to help determine if you can receive DSL.
What are the computer requirements for DSL?
For DSL connections, we support PC-compatible computers running Windows 95
or later, Classic MacOS computers (MacOS 7, 8, or 9) running Open
Transport (TCP/IP) 1.1.1 or higher, and MacOS X computers.
Computers running other operating systems such as Linux should also work as
long as they have a network card and support PPPoE. However, technical
support for these computers will not be provided by Internet Nebraska.
Additional hardware may be required in some configurations.
